Tokyo Revengers – Anime Fangirling

Tokyo Revengers is not a show I was interested in watching until I heard about it’s unique twist. A story about Japanese motorcycle hoodlums? Nah, not for me. However, bored one weekend in between anime seasons when all the shows I was watching were over, I gave the first episode a chance and basically binged watched the whole first season.

It’s not much of a spoiler to tell you its a time travel based story, and a fun story at that! The characters are really engaging and really pull you into the story of intrigue. I highly recommend the show but it is not great for people who don’t like violence.

Tokyo Revengers Plot

Originally a manga by Ken Wakui, the plot is pretty simple. Boy loves girl, they break up over something really stupid, 12 years go by, girl dies, and boy goes back in time to make things right.

From Wikipedia:

The story follows Takemichi Hanagaki, a 26-year-old temp worker with a gloomy life, who learns that his ex-girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, has died in a dispute involving the Tokyo Manji Gang. The next day, while returning from a part-time job, Takemichi gets pushed off the subway platform by someone. As he is about to be hit, he jumps twelve years back in time, to the year he was dating Hinata. Finding that out, he makes the decision to do everything to prevent her death.

Where to watch

Originally, it was only on Crunchyroll, but now it’s playing on Hulu. I am not a fan of having multiple video subscriptions so only get a subscription for a month or two of anything but Crunchyroll. The main problem with viewing the show on Hulu is the number of ads OR the cost of subscription.

Have you seen the show? What did you think?
